How could a digital tool help students to break down and organize their tasks
to
prevent overwhelm and focus on what is most important?
During my exchange semester, I got the opportunity to explore digital design through a course that introduced me to the fundamentals of UX and UI. The goal of this project was to design a digital product and to prototype two of the action flows.

Concept
As more and more people experience issues with concentration and attention span, the idea behind this project was to utilize techniques frequently used within the ADHD community to improve focus and tackle overwhelm.
The main function is the visual focus timer, which gives you visual feedback on how much time you have left to complete the task and provides a place to write down any focus-interrupting thoughts for later.
The timer features a so called "parking lot" - a tool that lets you write down thoughts unrelated to the task at hand - but that you don't want to forget. Writing them down directly within the timer lets you keep your focus, and as they are collected among the other tasks in your inbox, you can relax knowing that you will find them later. If needed, the notes can easily be converted into tasks from the inbox later.

To prevent overwhelm, the app advises you to break down your tasks into smaller and more specific subtasks.
By doing this they become more manageable and it allows you to estimate the time they will take so they can be planned into your schedule. This makes big and complex projects less intimidating, it gives you a better overview of what you have to do and it becomes clear if you need to reprioritize.
